Fumigation Types

Fumigation is applied in two types considering the air pressure at the place of application of fumigant.

Vacuum Fumigation: is based on discharge of the air inside the area of application of the fumigant and injection of the fumigant into the area.

In this application type, the area of application should be made to resist against certain pressure level.

In vacuum fumigation applications, fumigant is spread and adsorbed faster. In this sense, less fumigant is used and the duration of fumigation is short.

This application is quite appropriate for use where the application period is limited.

There are two types;

Stationery vacuum facility application

Mobile vacuum facility application

Atmospheric Fumigation

Atmospheric Fumigation applied under normal pressure may be classified as follows by the area of application and the product properties:

Under Cover Fumigation: It is a type of fumigation applied on the products collected under a cover.

Container Fumigation: It is directly applied inside the container. In the containers, agricultural and other products are fumigated subject to taking the required measures. The cover seals and other gaps are to be insulated first for effective application.

Cargo Ship Hatch Fumigation: It is a fumigation applied on the products contained in bulk, sealed in a hatch of a cargo ship.

Although the ships are generally constructed suitable for fumigation process, there are some ships not being suitable for the process.

In the ships being suitable for fumigation process, living spaces and hatches are separated. There are required ventilation systems.

In the other ships not being suitable for fumigation, the connection between the living spaces and hatches is to be isolated.

The seals of the hatch covers are to be controlled and strengthened as required. The hatch exhausts are to be closed.

Silo Fumigation: It is a fumigation method directly applied on wheat or grain or pasta silos.

Warehouse Fumigation: In storing of the grains, legumes and dry foods with valuable seeds, the harmful pests in the products may not be eliminated with other methods and techniques. The fumigation method which may be applied directly on the products will become advantageous in these goods.

Building Fumigation: It is the type of fumigation applied inside after ensuring sealing of all building covered.

Wood pallet and Box Fumigation: It is the fumigation method inside the container and under cover.

Historical Art and Museum Fumigation: type of fumigation applied for each work of art under a tint separately.

Historical works and antiques are especially subject to attacks and occupations of the bugs. Some bug types may cause permanent damages to such items.

It is difficult to take some bug types under control by using only standard pesticides.

Classical pesticide application may also harm to such valuable items.

That is fumigation is the only option we may use in museums.
