Rat Types

Mus (dormouse)

They are around 3 cm in size, and called as hazel mouse, they are grey have big ears, small eyes and noses.

Their stools are in rice size and oval shaped. They spread their stools around, they make their nests in the gaps and hollows, they settle in the houses and business places, they are good climbers and jumpers.

They reproduce very fast, the gestation period may take 18-21 days, with 5-8 babies in each gestation.

They reproduce 5 to 10 times in a year. They have very strong sense of smell.

An adult dormouse may pass through 0.5 cm hole and jump over 4 meters of height.

Roof Rat (black rat)

An adult roof rat measures 16-21 cm excluding the tail, and weighs 80-300 gr. They have sharp noise, large ear and eyes, and the hair is brown or black, and they are very good climbers.

They live inside ad under the buildings, roofs, garbage and wood piles. The stools of the adults are similar to the sewer rats but the end is sharper.

Roof rats become adult in 4 months, and live for 12 months. They give birth to 4 to 8 babies in one delivery, and they may deliver 6 times in a year.

They may pass through a gap larger than 12 mm.

The rats cause great danger by spreading many diseases and microbes, like leptospirosis, salmonella, brucellosis, rabies, and food and mouth disease.

Sewer rat

An adult sewer rat measures 18-25 cm excluding the tail and weighs around 200 to 600 grams. They have bump noise, small ear and eyes, their rough hair is brown and black color and the abs are gray and white.

The sewer rats make their nests in the sewer systems, basements and lower floors of the buildings, and warehouses, and near the rivers, underground, garbage piles and under the concrete outside the buildings.

The stools of the adults are capsule shaped with bump ends at both sides and may measure up to 20 mm. they become adult in 2 to 5 months, and live for 1 year. The gestation takes 3 weeks. They give birth to 7 to 8 babies in one delivery, and them may deliver 3 to 6 times per annum.

They have strong smell and hearing senses.

They may pass through  12 mm of gap and jump over 15 meters of a wall.

They like to shew and they cause fire mostly since they chew electric cables.
