Fumigant Products

Fumigant Products | Atılım Fumigation
Active substance, registration, formulation and commodity compatibility are assessed together when selecting a fumigant product.

A 'fumigant' is the active substance, or the chemical that acts in gaseous form, while a 'fumigant product' is the commercial product that brings that active substance to market in a specific formulation, packaging and use label. Products containing the same active substance may differ in their approved uses, concentrations and application conditions.

What to check when selecting a fumigant product

  • Active substance and formulation
  • Registration or official authorisation for use
  • Target pest and permitted commodity group
  • Label dosage rate, temperature and exposure conditions
  • Storage and transport requirements
  • Safety data sheet and emergency information
  • Treatment methodology accepted by the destination country

Why does formulation matter?

Some products are supplied as ready gas in pressurised cylinders, while others are solid formulations that release gas through a controlled reaction. Application equipment, gas distribution, measurement method, waste management and safety precautions can all vary according to the formulation.

A trade name alone is not enough

The trade name of a product is no guarantee that an export treatment will be accepted. The active substance, manufacturer label, batch information, expiry date, approved field of use and the requirements of the relevant official programme must all be verified. Counterfeit, unlabelled or untraceable products must never be used.

Storage and records

Fumigant products must be kept in areas that are closed to unauthorised access and provide adequate ventilation and security conditions. Product movements in and out, lot information, quantities used and treatment records must remain traceable. Empty packaging and treatment residues must be managed in line with the product label and the applicable legislation.

Product-based assessment with Atılım Fumigation

When a service request is received, Atılım Fumigation looks not only at the pest species but also at the commodity, packaging, shipment, temperature and destination country requirements. In this way the fumigant product and method to be used are assessed as a whole before the treatment begins.
